Liverpool are understood to have shelled out a whopping £15m when they sacked former manager Brendan Rodgers and his backroom staff during the early stages of last season.

The Northern Irishman left the club following a poor start to the 2015/2016 campaign, but with over two-and-a-half years left to run on his deal, the decision to dismiss Rodgers did not come cheap for the Reds.

According to theLiverpool Echo, a total of£15,669,000 was spent by the club on˜redundancy and associated costs'. The details of the pay-out Rodgers and co received have been unearthed following the publication of Liverpool's accounts forthe 12 months up to May 31st 2016, which have now been filed away in London.

Whilst the exact details of Rodgers' pay-out have yet to be confirmed, the incredible £15m spent on 'redundancy and associated costs' also includes pay-outs to a number of coaches.

Having given Rodgers the go ahead to overhaul his coaching team, Liverpool's American owners,Fenway Sports Group, had to firstly pay assistant manager Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh, who were both dismissed in June 2015.

The decision to give Rodgers the green light to dismiss both men spectacularly misfired however, as the manager himself was removed just five months later, along with backroom staff membersSean O'Driscoll, McAllister, Glen Driscoll and Chris Davies, who were all sacked ahead of the arrival of former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp.

With the accountsfor the 12 months up to May 31st 2016 showing Liverpool made a pre-tax loss of nearly £20m, a further £1.66m of that figure is understood to have been filed under payments to directors, including the £1.2m annual salary of former chief executive Ian Ayre.
