Richmond Lamptey’s inclusion will be an add-on to Black Stars - Kotoko assistant coch, David Ocloo

Assistant coach of Asante Kotoko, David Ocloo believes Richmond Lamptey’s call-up to the Black Stars will be a positive add-on to the team’s quality.

Football fans in the country have crusaded for the inclusion of the midfielder in Ghana's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following his impressive performance in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

According to Ocloo, this is at a time when strong calls have been made for the former WAFA player to be included in the Black Stars team.

Speaking in a post-game interview after Lamptey featured in a goalless draw with Great Olympics on Sunday, Ocloo backed such calls and highlighted Lamptey’s quality.

“Richmond Lamptey is a fantastic player and you can all see his contribution to the team. It will be an add-on to the Black Stars,” Ocloo said.

The deadline for submission of squad lists for the 2023 AFCON is January 3, 2024, and the almost certain absence of Thomas Partey to injury and the lack of creativity in the team has prompted calls for Lamptey to be included in the Black Stars.

Ghana, who are seeking to win its fifth continental title is in Group B with Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
