Rio Ferdinand Inspires Manchester United Youngsters With Speech After Humiliating Defeat

Published on: 16 December 2016

Rio Ferdinand gave a Manchester United youth team some encouraging words after they suffered a humiliating 9-0 defeat.

The former United defender was doing a vlog for his FIVE company in which the video follows his trip to Carrington training ground where hemet up with stars Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.

The highlight of the clip comes towards the end when he addresses the United youngsters, after the kids were thrashed 9-0 by their bitter City rivals.

In a comforting response, Ferdinand spoke of his difficult time being beaten 6-1 by their neighbours at Old Trafford and that embarrassing results can happen even to the best of teams, but what really matters is how you bounce back.

"I remember getting beat at Old Trafford, 6-1, by City," he said.

"You've got to find something within yourselves. You've got to push your chest out and make sure next time you play them, you deal with them.

"You have to understand that the badge, Man Utd, is not a joke. If you ain't embarrassed, if you ain't upset, if you ain't hurt, then you shouldn't be at a football club."

Young footballers can only benefit from words of wisdom from an international sporting star.
