Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons has committed his long-term future to the Magpies after signing a new five-year contract that will now keep him tied to the club until 2021.

Having joined from Bristol City's youth team in 2012, Aarons made his first-team debut for Newcastle two years later and has been tipped to play a big role in the Championship this season as the club looks to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

"It's something that was always going to happen, but it's nice to get it done," the Jamaican-born England Under-20 international told NUFC.co.uk after signing the fresh terms.

"I love the club and this shows it even more. Under the new manager, there's a project and it's a forward-thinking club now, so I'm just happy to be part of what the manager has in store for the club and I'm happy that he has faith in me," he added.

"I'd like to repay him and the fans and my family for this opportunity."

Aarons played 29 minutes as a substitute as Newcastle opened the 2016/17 campaign with a narrow defeat away against Fulham last Friday night.

The Magpies will now be looking to bounce back from defeat with back-to-back home games against Huddersfield and Reading in the space of four days from Saturday through Wednesday.

They will thenround off the month of August with clashes against Aarons' former club Bristol City and promotion rivals Brighton, by which point Rafa Benitez's sidewill hope to have settled into a rhythm and put some points on the board.
