AS Roma chief Monchi has discussed Chelsea's attempt for Edin Dzeko last month.

Chelsea signed Emerson Palmieri in January - and also attempted to buy Dzeko before landing Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

Monchi revealed: "We started talking to them for Emerson and only then did they raise the name of Edin. We have responded with a new proposal: the English club has never come to satisfy us and that's why the negotiations have not closed.

"No club is happy to sell its best players but if an important economic offer arrives it is impossible not to evaluate it. Surely we will have taken an important player, maybe Giroud, because otherwise the fans, rightly, would have got angry.

"We have a lot of confidence both in (Patrik) Schick and in (Gregoire) Defrel but we would have got another 100% attacker."
