With the emerging defender attracting interest from both Italian and foreign clubs, Roma are reportedly in the best position to sign Italy Under-21 international Gianluca Mancini from Atalanta.

The 22-year-old centre-back has taken the place of AC Milan defender Mattia Caldara in the Orobici backline and he is having a breakthrough campaign in Bergamo, featuring in 16 matches so far in the 2018/19 Serie A season and scoring five goals.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are planning to do a deal with Atalanta for Mancini and that could involve sending French forward Gregoire Defrel, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria, in the opposite direction.

Although it could be completed in the final days of January, any deal would not see the players move until the summer.

In addition to Roma reportedly showing their interest, German giants Bayern Munich are interested and so are the English Premier League trio of Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Everton.
