Romelu Lukaku Surpasses Duncan Ferguson as Everton's PL Top-Scorer After Strike Against Spurs

With two goals helping to secure an important three points for Spurs, Sunday afternoon at White Hart Lane very much belonged to Harry Kane.

However, the match also happened to be a red-letter day for Romelu Lukaku, too, as the Belgian forward struck his 61st goal for the Toffees to surpass Duncan Ferguson as the club's record Premier League marksman.

The 23-year-old capitalised on an untimely slip from Jan Vertonghen to race forward and rifle past Hugo Lloris in typically clinical fashion to make it 2-1 and give Everton a lifeline.

Ultimately, it was a disappointing afternoon for Lukaku, who was often isolated up front as Spurs dominated, but he can take some solace in over-taking a club legend as top-scorer.

It's certainly worth noting that Lukaku is still only 23. It's easy to forget his tender age because he's been an established Premier League striker for four years now, but he still has plenty of time to improve and become one of the world's finest forwards.

Even at this point, he's been in devastating form for Ronald Koeman's team this season and will continue to chase Kane for the Golden Boot (he is one shy of the England striker's 19). Everton fans won't particularly care about him scooping that accolade, though, as they just want confirmation that the former Chelsea striker will remain at the club for next season.

His agent, Mino Raiola, confirmed last week that Lukaku intends to stay and that contract negotiations were "99.9999%" done, but matters can change so swiftly in football, as we all know.
