Romeu seeks better starts

Oriol Romeu is concerned at how slowly Southampton have started their first two Premier League matches of the campaign - against Burnley and Everton.

Mark Hughes' side have been poor in the first halves of both matches and, although they escaped with a point from a goalless draw against the Clarets on the opening weekend of the campaign, they conceded twice in the first 30 minutes against Everton and eventually lost the encounter 2-1.

Romeu is worried, as Saints only just narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship last term.

Southampton face Leicester City on Saturday and are 13/10 to beat the Foxes while they are available at 4/1 to be relegated this season.

"We need to start games better because against Burnley we were lucky it was 0-0 but in the Everton match we conceded a couple of early goals," Romeu said.

"We cannot have these differences between parts of the game because that is killing us.

"We do come out at teams feeling confident that we can get something out of every game.

"Sometimes it's how we react if something negative happens, how we get over this and that's very important throughout the whole season."

Romeu has featured in 100 league matches for Southampton since moving to St Mary's from Chelsea for £5million three years ago. He has only scored three top-flight goals for Saints but is 9/1 to score at any time against Leicester.
