Cristiano Ronaldo has won the UEFA's Player of the Year award, which was announced during the Champions League group stage draw on Thursday.

The Real Madrid striker was up against Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann who also made the top three of the nominees shortlist.

Ronaldo scored a massive 35 league goals as well as 16 in the Champions League for Madrid during the last season.

He also captained Portugal to victory in the tournament scoring three goals on the road to the final in which he heartache, leaving the pitch injured.

Team mate Bale scored 19 La Liga goals in the 2015-16 season as well as three for Wales at Euro 2016, who progressed as far as the semi-finals in their first major tournament in 58 years.

Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are now the only two players to have won the prize twice. Ronaldo won it following the 2013-14 season while Messi was the first winner in 2010-11 and the holder from last year.
