Ronaldo: I’m not obsessed with individual prizes

Upon accepting the prize for best Portuguese athlete 2018, Cristiano Ronaldo has reiterated the fact that his team’s success comes before his own.

Ronaldo has been in sensational form for Juventus this season, bagging 14 goals so far, as the Bianconeri started the Serie A campaign in record breaking fashion. Dropping just four points in the first 19 matches.

“I’m not obsessed with individual prizes,” Ronaldo told Portugese newspaper Record. “The most important thing is to help the team win. Everything else is a natural consequence.

“The same goes for records. Beating them isn’t a given, what matters is being able to improve more and more.

“It isn’t easy, because the technical, tactical and physical level of all teams has risen, and winning is getting more and more complicated.

“That’s why I have to work even harder to stay at the top. Winning is beautiful and it’s something that makes me happy, but if it does not happen it’s not the end of the world.”

With Nani back at Sporting CP, Ronaldo was asked about also making a move to his homeland to join up with his boyhood club.

“I’m glad to see him [Nani] happy and playing,” the Juventus star continued. “He’s back where we grew up as players and as men. So I know he is ok.

“As for me returning, in football you never know [he said smiling].”

There was also the inevitable question on the rape allegations made by Kathryn Mayorga, and as has been the case since the revelations were made, Ronaldo was relaxed and clear in his answer.

“I find the accusations against me disgusting,” Ronaldo said. “But at the same time I am calm as I have a clear conscience. Very soon everything will be clarified.”
