Ronaldo Set to Be Crowned FIFA 'Best Player' at Monday Night Awards Ceremony

Spanish media reports claim that Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will be handed FIFA's Player of the Year award at an awards ceremony on Monday night, adding the gong to his Ballon d'Or triumph last month.


Real Madridpresident Florentino Perez will join Ronaldo at the ceremony in Zurich, withteammates Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, all expected to be in attendance after being tipped to be named in FIFA's team of the year.

He's already won the Ballon d'Or.

Marcareport that the Portugal star will land the award at the football governing body'sinaugural Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony, which has split off from France Football's Ballon d'Or ceremony after a brief partnership.


A spectacular 2016 saw the Real Madrid forward win the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup with his club side, adding a European Championship winners medal to his vast collection when he led an unfancied Portugal side to the title in France over the summer.

Barcelona linchpin and long-time rival Lionel Messi has also been nominated for the award, as has Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann after an impressive year for club and country.


Goalreport thatGriezmann's France teammate Paul Pogba is set to miss out on the team of the year by just two votes after becoming the world's most expensive player this summer, while his former Juventus teammate and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon could only make it to second place in the goalkeeper voting.
