Ronaldo third in table-topping football hairstyles

As the World Cup gets off to a flying start in Russia, football fans have been reminiscing about the range of iconic hairstyle’s that have graced the competition in the past.

Ronaldo’s Shaved Dome look for Brazil in the 2002 Japan and South Korea World Cup was voted #3 at the top of the hairstyle table, only beaten by Ruud Gullit’s Dreadlocks and David Beckham’s iconic Cornrows.

“Treating their scalps as blank canvases, footballers have long given their hairstylists full creative license in crafting artistic masterpieces that make statements, set trends and that grab the headlines when gracing football’s biggest stages,” commented Landry Agres, a celebrity football stylist. “The foundation of a healthy scalp is to be free of symptoms like dryness, excess oil or inflammation that can cause flakes which are not part of any style.”

Agres has a point to be fair. When legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo entered the 2002 World Cup he was recovering from a groin injury and there was intense speculation over his match fitness. A frustrated Ronaldo decided to use his hair to change the conversation. The Brazilian sported a sensational hairstyle for the competition – shaving his head but for his fringe – and went on to net eight goals as Brazil lifted the trophy.

The tournament announced Ronaldo as a global superstar, soon after Inter accepted a 46 million euro bid from Real Madrid and Ronaldo went on to pick up the Ballon d’Or.

While Ronaldo was lauded for sporting one of the most iconic hairstyles in football, it was his countryman Ronaldinho whose Ponytail hair-do was chosen by seven out of the eight participating nations as the best hairstyle in international football history.

In promotion of the Men Ultra range and as part of the Head & Shoulders #JUSTWATCHME campaign, football hairstylist Landry Agres is giving fans exclusive football hairstyle tutorials so they can replicate some of the beautiful game’s most iconic hairstyles this summer.
