DC United forward Wayne Rooney has tipped Juventus to win the Champions League, as he believes their signing of Cristiano Ronaldo will prove decisive.
The Bianconeri last tasted success in the competition in 1996, and defeats in the 2015 and 2017 finals no doubt pushed them to acquire the Portuguese star for €100 million from Real Madrid.
Rooney believes that Ronaldo will show his worth for Juventus this campaign, as he looks to bring home a fourth Champions League crown in as many seasons.
“He’ll do what he’s been doing for the last 10 years, he’ll bring goals to Juventus and I fancy Juventus to win the Champions League this year solely for the fact Cristiano has gone there,” he told CNN Sport.
Having played with the Portuguese star at Manchester United from 2004 to 2009, Rooney lauded his former teammate’s dedication.
“As a person he’s a nice guy, a family guy, works hard and he’s always got his family around him which is great to see,” he added.
“He works hard and deserves all the credit he gets because he’s put that effort in to be at the top.”
Rooney joined DC United from Everton in June, and has since netted three goals in seven appearances for the MLS side.
