Published on: 28 March 2023

Samuel Osei-Kuffuor has resigned from the Black Stars management committee, Kumasi-based Sompa FM has reported.

The former Ghana international was appointed a member of the management of the committee of the senior national team on February 2022.

However, according to the report, the 46-year-old has submitted his resignation letter to the Ghana Football Association [GFA].

Kuffour is one of the few players that has played and served the national team in various capacities.

Following the unveiling of Chris Hughton as the new head coach of the Black Stars in Kumasi last week, Kuffour was not found at the SG Mall and was not in attendance at the Baba Yara Stadium when the Black Stars defeat Angola in the first leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers.

Kuffour's reason for his sudden resignation from the position is unknown.

The former Bayern Munich centre-back was a member of the Black Stars squad that featured at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Sammy Osei-Kuffuor was a Ghana international for 13 years and won his first cap as a 17-year-old in a game against Sierra Leone on 28 November 1993.

He had previously been part of every national team – junior, youth and Olympic level – and became the full squad’s captain at the age of 23.
