Sarri: I want to end Chelsea’s counter-attacking style

One of the reasons why Maurizio Sarri hasn’t had it all his own way at Chelsea is due to the fact that he has had to contend with imposing his style over Chelsea’s counter-attacking instincts.

After a promising start to life at Stamford Bridge, things have tailed off somewhat of late and last time out, the Blues were battered 4-0 at the hands of Bournemouth.

However, in spite of those struggles, Sarri has insisted that he will not change his tactical beliefs and is determined to make them succeed in London.

“I don’t think I can change at the moment,” he said. “I could change my mind in the future, I don’t know. I changed in the past but now, no. If I can change the mentality of these players they are really very suitable for my football.

“I am a dreamer. I want to play my football but if I arrived here after starting in a non-professional team it’s because I am a dreamer. If I have fun with my football, I want to play my football.

“This team was used to playing, and winning, with another formation and counter-attacking on the break but as I’ve said, I want to play according to my vision, which is possession of the ball and controlling the game.”

The former Napoli boss also pleaded for patience among the fans as he attempts to implement his style for long-term success.

“I knew there would be difficulties because here the level is very high. I share the disappointment of our fans, but at this moment they must have patience,” he concluded.
