Schlupp and Amartey cameo as Leicester book place in UEFA Champions League last 16

Ghana internationals Jeffrey Schlupp and Daniel Amartey made substitute appearances for Leicester City as they edged past Club Brugge 2-1 to book their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

The English Premier League champions progressed courtesy goals by Shinji Okazaki and Riyad Mahrez in the fifth and 30th minutes while Brugge scored a consolation through Jose Izquierdo in the 52nd minute.

Okazaki put the Foxes ahead after just five minutes with a left-footed volley before Riyad Mahrez doubled the lead from the penalty spot 15 minutes later after Marc Albrighton was tripped in the box.

Leicester conceded their first goal of the competiton when Brugge man Jose Izquierdo cut the deficit with a fine solo goal after the break.

Claudio Ranieri's men held on and, with Copenhagen and Porto ending in a goalless draw, were able to celebrate successfully navigating the group stage.

All the goals in the tie were scored before both Amartey and Schlupp entered the fray.

Schlupp replaced the skilfull Algerian Mahrez in the 68th minute while Amartey came on for Marc Albrighton in the 78th minute to solidify the defence.
