Sergio Ramos Claims 2014-Led Carlo Ancelotti Real Side Was Better Than Current Team

Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos believes the side managed by former boss Carlo Ancelotti was better than Zinedine Zidane's current crop of talent.

Real won the Champions League and the Copa del Rey during the 2013-14 season, while they finished third in the La Liga.

Speaking toFIFA's official websiteahead of his side's Club World Cup fixture against Mexican club America on Thursday, Ramos revealed the team which contained the likes of Iker Casillas, Sami Khedira and Angel Di Maria holds the edge over the current side.

Every season is very intense but I think that one, with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, was very consistent. I think we played truly excellent football and we maintained our rhythm.

Ramos did praise the current side, claiming they were well balanced heading into the second half of the season.

"We're doing a good job," Ramos continued.

"The structure and the core of the squad is the same, and that's healthy for the team. We've got a better understanding with each other, and we're on the same wavelength on the pitch too. The team's reaping the benefits of that. We've got a good mix of veteran and young players.

"This Club World Cup gives us the chance to test ourselves against other styles of play that we're perhaps not so used to.

"We have new goals to achieve, and new records to break. There are always new challenges.

Ramos scored the winner against Deportivo La Coruna, and will be hoping to see out 2016 by leading his side to the Club World Cup in Japan.
