After a string of losses, Salernitana, which was promoted to Italy's Serie A this season, announced on Sunday that coach Fabrizio Castori had been fired.
The club's sixth defeat of the season, a 2-1 loss to Spezia on Saturday, was the final straw.
"U.S. Salernitana 1919 announces that Fabrizio Castori has been relieved of his duties as first team trainer," the club said on its website, thanking him for "his professionalism and the goals achieved".
Despite signing highly experienced former French international Franck Ribery, Salernitana returned to Serie A for the first time since 1998-99, they have struggled and are currently second bottom of the table.
The organization stated that people who "desire to go beyond the limitations" should not adopt a "submissive and defeatist mindset."
