Cristiano Ronaldo earns more before tax than the entire squads of 14 Serie A clubs, with the Portuguese earning a gross annual sum of €62 million. After tax his pay halves to €31m, though that itself is still more than ten of the 20 clubs in the Italian top tier.
Juventus unsurprisingly lead the way, spending €219m on their players’ salaries, which is considerably more than second-placed AC Milan’s €140m.
Inter and Roma round out the top four with €116m and €100m respectively, while Napoli come in at fifth on €94m. There is then another sizeable drop to Lazio’s €66m in sixth, before Cristiano Ronaldo alone takes seventh place in the list with his €62m gross pay.
Atalanta come in at a surprising 14th for money spent on player salaries, making their recent exploits all the more impressive. Spending just €27m, their players earn less than those of Genoa, Bologna, Sassuolo and Cagliari among others.
Empoli’s €16m is Serie A’s lowest. Chievo impressively manage to maintain their top-flight status consistently despite spending the second smallest amount, along with SPAL on €21m.
Newcomers Parma and Frosinone sit just outside the bottom three with their respective figures of €23m and €22m.
