Although clubs paid their respects to the victims of the Morandi Bridge tragedy with black armbands and a mixture of minutes silence and applause, Serie A have confirmed that they will also be honoured on the second matchday of the campaign.

After matches for Genoa and Sampdoria, the clubs from the city where the bridge collapsed on August 14, the duo will return this weekend, with all teams sporting t-shirts bearing the phrase ‘Genoa in the heart’.

In additional the president of Serie A Gaetano Micciche also confirmed that a fund will be set up to support the Ligurian city.

“As a sign of participation and solidarity with the victims of the drama of Genoa the league will establish, as already announced, a fund that will be allocated to the needs of the Genoese people, in agreement with the city authorities: to show our friendship and to dedicate our thoughts to the victims of the Morandi Bridge and their families,” Micciche told the press.

With Serie B starting on Friday, clubs in the second tier will also pay their respects with a minute’s silence, but will be doing so alongside their support of those who died in the flash floods at the Pollino National Park in Calabria.
