Shakespeare maintains Allardyce in charge of Everton team selection

Sam Allardyce will pick the team and tactics Everton's Thursday night Europa League tie against Apollon Limassol despite not being on the sidelines for the clash, confirmed Craig Shakespeare.

The new Toffees boss will miss the match due a 'pre-arranged medical appointment'.

Shakespeare and Duncan Ferguson will be in the technical area for the tie, but the former Leicester boss insists they will be following instructions from Allardyce.

"It's a bit more inclusive than that," said Shakespeare, when asked if Allardyce will tell him who to play.

"Directions from the manager of course, he picks the team, the tactics, but he'll always ask for opinions.

Asked if he will take in-game instructions from Allardyce, Shakespeare added: "I haven't thought about it yet.

"I'll speak to him tomorrow morning and find out what he wants to do. I have no problem with it, of course, when the game is going on you can get wrapped up in the situation but I'll get some clarity on that."
