Should Norwich renew their interest in Rangers' Joe Dodoo

Norwich City's new sporting director Stuart Webber attempted to sign Rangers' Joe Dodoo at Huddersfield Town.

While Huddersfield Town have overachieved with one of the Championship’s smallest budgets, Norwich City are loitering outside the play-offs despite outspending them by over £20 million, as reported by Transfermarkt.

Therefore, The Canaries will be hoping that Stuart Webber, their new sporting director who dragged Huddersfield from mid-table to the play-offs in under two years, will be able to exact the same influence at Carrow Road.

Webber built his reputation on using the transfer market intelligently to recruit players with a point to prove, often on a free transfer or a loan deal a la Izzy Brown and Danny Ward.

And, although Norwich have a far larger budget and can afford to spend big on the likes of Alex Pritchard and Yanic Wildschut, Webber should perhaps stick to the principles that earned him the opportunity to make a difference at Carrow Road.

Therefore, perhaps he should renew interest in Joe Dodoo as his first act. The Daily Mail claimed last year that the Leicester City youngster, who shot to fame with a debut hat-trick against Bury in the EFL Cup, was being lined up by Huddersfield after his contract expired at the King Power.

With so many Huddersfield players performing above expectations, you wonder whether Dodoo wishes he’d move to Yorkshire as he remains stuck on the Rangers bench. The 21-year-old has made just two Scottish Premiership starts all season, featuring in just 30 minutes of action across new manager Pedro Caixinha’s three games in charge.

And while Norwich’s main priority should be sorting out their defence rather than an attack bettered only by Newcastle, Brighton and Fulham, Webber has proved at Huddersfield that signing young, promising players desperate to make an impression is a good blueprint for success.

Dodoo, a talented youngster in need of a fresh start, is in many ways a typical Webber signing.
