Silva eager to retain Lookman

Manager Marco Silva is adamant that forward Ademola Lookman has a big future at Goodison Park, despite having been loaned out to RB Leipzig last season.

Twenty-year-old England Under-21 international Lookman scored five times in 11 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig during the second half of last season and has been heavily linked with a permanent move away from the Toffees.

My opinion is he is the present and the future of the club and we have to try to convince him to go in this way as well.

However, Silva has high hopes for the youngster and does not want to see him move on.

The Portuguese told reporters ahead of a Saturday trip to Bournemouth: "He is our player. You know what my technical opinion of the player is and the player knows. For me it is not an issue.

"I understand some clubs are interested in him, but I told you last week, I told you two weeks ago, my opinion is he is the present and the future of the club and we have to try to convince him to go in this way as well."

Silva also confirmed that midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin will miss the weekend action due to injury, but defender Lucas Digne is expected to shake off a slight knock to feature against the Cherries.

Meanwhile, Silva has admitted that deadline day signings from Barcelona, Yerry Mina and Andres Gomes, are unlikely to feature for the Merseysiders until after the international break next month.

The duo are still some way short of match fitness and Silva is not about to rush them into the fray.

He added: "It looks maybe after the international break they can start working with us. We will see next week how they are and after I can (maybe) give a different update, but it is possible after the break."

Everton are available at 1/4 to finish in the top half of the Premier League this season, while they are 3/1 to claim a top-six finish.
