Simeone waiting on Griezmann

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone retains some hope that star striker Antoine Griezmann will opt to stay with the club this summer.

The France international scored twice as Atleti secured a dominant 3-0 Europa League final win over Marseille in Lyon, with Griezmann again being heavily linked with a move away from Madrid before next season.

If he stays I'll be delighted and if he leaves I'll be grateful for everything he's done for us.

However, Simeone is taking nothing for granted just yet and believes there is still a chance that Griezmann will remain with Los Rojiblancos despite interest from elsewhere.

Asked about Griezmann's future, Atletico head coach Diego Simeone said: "It's a decision that he will have to come to. Whatever he decides I'll be happy because he has given us his life.

"If he stays I'll be delighted and if he leaves I'll be grateful for everything he's done for us.

"He's given us a lot, he gave us a leap in quality as a team. If he stays we'll keep growing because we are destined to keep growing.

"I hope that he is happy to play for us. He's played three finals with us and won two. Now we are in the UEFA Super Cup, so he could play four finals with us.

"So, on a sporting level we aren't so far from the clubs that have more power than us."

Twenty-seven-year-old forward Griezmann joined Atleti in the summer of 2014 from Real Sociedad and has since scored 112 goals in 208 appearances in all competitions.

He has also won more than 50 caps for France and was a member of the squad who reached the final of the European Championships on home soil two years ago, where they were beaten 1-0 by Portugal.

Les Bleus are 7/1 to win the World Cup this summer, while they are 4/1 to be beaten in the semi-finals and 11/4 to lose in the last eight.
