Six things Hearts fans must know about Richard Atta

Published on: 05 December 2019

On Sunday, Hearts of Oak announced the huge signing of former Elmina Sharks goal custodian, putting pen to paper on a long term deal with the Phobians.

He once played as a winger

Yes you read right!

During his early years as a footballer, Attah used to play as a left winger for Fanko Babies, a colts club at Ashaiman. It is revealed that Attah only became a goalkeeper after the club’s two shot-stoppers failed to turn up for a game.

“Before, i was a winger who was more out wide and not too much in the penalty area,” explained to kickgh.com

“I was advised to be man the post when our goalkeepers failed to turn up for a game.” The rest is history!”

Like many goalkeepers, it seems 6’5 Attah was pushed into the position because of height.

He never lost a game in Elmina

Throughout his stay with Elmina Sharks, Attah never lost a game in 31 appearances and kept a clean sheet on 21 occasions. Isn’t that impressive?

Brace yourself for more.

Jan Oblak is his idol

If you’re looking for inspiration as a goalkeeper, there are few ones around one can pick. For Attah, it is Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak. He is quoted as saying: “I have the opportunity to learn from several goalkeepers but I have great affection for Jan Oblak... it seems to me that he is a gentleman on and off the field.”

He’s rated very highly at Hearts and could quick become first choice

With a shake up in the goalkeeping department likely in the upcoming season, Attah could be in line to get plenty more minutes for Hearts.

Regular goalkeeper Richmond Ayi has been in and out of the side amid some inconsistent displays.

Benjamin Mensah saw few minutes last term and the situation is likely to continue with the arrival of Attah.

He is an old student of Koforidua Technical Institute

Before his move to Hearts, Attah grabbed the headlines on Facebook with his emotional message to all associated with Elmina Sharks. Many were astonished and overwhelmed with bewildered at his writing prowess. I did a sleuthing and found out that he schooled at the Koforidua Technical Institute.

Sister Afia is his celebrity crush

Sister Afia is Ghanaian Indie rock, Alternative rock, highlife and afrobeats artist. The’jeje’ hitmaker has not warmed herself into the hearts of many people with her songs but also with her voluptuous build and spruce. Sister Afia is Richard Attah’s celebrity crush.

Something must kill a man indeed!
