Smalling excited by Red Devils talent

Published on: 17 June 2019

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling says he is looking forward to seeing how the club's young players perform during their upcoming summer tour.

Smalling will be one of the Red Devils's most experienced players when they return for pre-season on 1st July.

United will travel to Australia, China, Singapore and Wales this summer before the start of the competitive season.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked at a number of youngsters towards the end of last season, with Tahith Chong, James Garner and Mason Greenwood all making their debuts for the first-team.

Smalling feels the same could happen again and he is confident the young players will take their chance this summer.

He told the club's official website: "It's very much an exciting time for them and you want to see them flourish and help them. I'm sure a good number will come on tour and it's really a time for them to bond with us, and show the manager what they are all about. Ole will definitely give some of them a chance as they've been training with us for a long time.

"It is all well and good coming over training with us most of the week, though, but it's a massive experience getting to know each other off the pitch and building relationships. That's often the next stage that cements them and makes them feel more confident when they're on the pitch."

United are 25/1 to win the Premier League next season.
