Social Media Was Full of Love for Frank Lampard After Stunning Monday Night Punditry

Published on: 06 March 2017

Ex-Chelsea and England star Frank Lampard was a guest pundit standing in for Gary Neville in this week's edition of Sky Sports' Monday Night Football as his former club took on West Ham in a London derby.

The 38-year-old is continuing to weigh up his post-playing options since leaving New York City at the end of 2016. He's currently working on his coaching badges with help from Chelsea, although he doesn't know if he'll end up coaching at the club, while he will continue to do more punditry work in a bid to keep his football mind sharp in the meantime.

"Chelsea are helping me now with my badges and I'm thankful for that. As we all know, the badges are a process, it's not an overnight thing so that will take some time," Lampard told Sky's Soccer Saturday programme ahead of his Monday night appearance.

"I'll do some TV bits in that time to keep myself involved and I'm interested in that side of things. It leaves my options open and when you finish, I think it's important to not make a rash decision right away," he added.

"You have look at the world, step outside the bubble of a footballer, and make the right decision. Fortunately enough, I have options so it's about taking the right one."

Lampard has done punditry work before, for BBC as well as Sky, and given the overwhelmingly positive response one can only hope he'll be doing a lot more of it in the future.

Long noted as one football's most intelligent individuals with a reported IQ of 150, Lampard spoke very well, was clear and insightful in his opinions and was genuinely a joy to listen to. There was no Paul Merson garbling, no Robbie Savage nonsense, no Michael Owen clichés, just informative and interesting analysis delivered perfectly.

I do like Frank Lampard as a pundit, speaks very well and much more insightful than many others.#MNF

Frank Lampard already sounding like one of the best pundits out there #MNF

@SkySportsMNF #FrankLampard speaks so we'll. Great analysis. Cut above the rest when talking about the game (wasn't a bad player too)! ⚽

@SkySportsMNF @Carra23 frank lampard is a total class act on tonights show. Fascinating listening to top players! Carra ain't bad either!

Frank Lampard is an excellent pundit. Proper insight with the career to more than back it up. #MNF

Said this before but Frank Lampard is a very good pundit. Impressive interviewer, too. Actually asks insightful questions #MNF

Frank Lampard was exceptional as a #MNF pundit. Definitely a natural. Is @Carra23's job on @SkySportsMNF in danger? 樂

Chelsea almost as good as Frank Lampard was on MNF tonight!
