Southampton Boss Claude Puel Disappointed With Result Despite Late Equaliser

Published on: 27 August 2016

Claude Puel was subject ofdisarray following Southampton's 1-1 draw with Sunderland suggesting his side did not take enough oftheir chances.

The first half ended 0-0 but could have been different had Charlie Austin or DusanTadic of done better. A penalty stuck away by Defoe put the visitor's in front but Jay Rodriguez rectified that in the 85th minute. Saint's strong performance did not alter the scoreline.

Doesn't even look like the players respect Puel. Worrying. #saintsfc

Puel speaking to the Saint's website after the game said:"Again I offer the same analogy - we lacked goals and it's a disappointment this afternoon because my players give all their energy with a good spirit and good attitude.

"It's a shame to take this game and not be rewarded this afternoon for all the situations. It's the same as the first two games for us.

"It's important to score goals because it means you take the points, but also this afternoon we had to try not to concede, and the one situation they had they scored froma penalty.

"We started the game fantastically, but we had to score in this moment. I think it was unlucky, but we had to continue to work hard after the break."

💬 "It's a disappointment this afternoon."
