Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt happy to see action for Brighton draw

Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt says they should've beaten Brighton at the Amex yesterday.

Saints had to accept a point after Glenn Murray's effort cancelled out Steven Davis' opener for the visitors.

"We started really well and deserved to be in front," said Hoedt. “After that, we dropped too deep and didn't play to our strengths.

“We didn't put enough pressure on their backline; they pressed harder than we did and that's why they earned a point."

He added: “Personally, it was great to get out there again this afternoon. I think there's potential in our defence, not only between myself and Virgil but with all the other centre-backs in the squad."
