Luciano Spalletti praised the way his side kept their cool and stuck to their game plan despite tralning Leicester by two goals, as the Azzurri fought their way back onto level terms to earn a point at King Power Stadium.

“The lads responded brilliantly – their mentality was spot on,” the coach enthused after the 2-2 draw in their Europa League group-stage opener in England.

"It would have been an injustice if we'd come away empty-handed tonight after all the chances we created. I was really pleased with our attitude – we kept it together even when we were two goals down.

“The substitutes proved decisive but the credit must go to the lads who came on. We stayed in the game by sticking to our plan. I have lots of quality players in this squad and it's only right they should get on the pitch and show what they can do.

"[Victor] Osimhen is a thoroughbred striker. He can develop into a top player He just needs to understand a few things and then he can become a world-class centre forward."
