Spalletti: Inter disengaged too often against Torino

Inter fell to a 1-0 defeat at Torino on Sunday evening and Luciano Spalletti says his side switched off too regularly.

In what was a relatively even game with few clear chances, the Nerazzurri disappointed and never really served their strike partnership of Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez.

“If you take away the goal then there wasn’t much that separated the sides,” a frustrated Spalletti told journalists at his post-match press conference.

“We made more mistakes and disengaged from the game.

“Then, we conceded a goal needlessly from a set piece. We have to be better from these situations.”

Spalletti set Inter up in a 3-5-2 formation, which he says he was forced into.

“Except for [Antonio] Candreva I had no wingers available,” he explained when asked why he chose to mirror Toro.

“[Matteo] Politano wasn’t fully fit, but I decided to risk him in the last 20 minutes and I couldn’t use [Ivan] Perisic because he’s not ready after his injury.

“It was an opportunity for the team to raise it and to see two strikers playing together.”
