Spalletti praises improving Inter

Inter Milan head coach Luciano Spalletti believes his team are making progress with their performances, having kept five consecutive clean sheets.

The Nerazzurri had to settle for a goalless draw in the Milan derby against AC Milan on Wednesday evening, with Mauro Icardi passing up a couple of clear opportunities to win the game for the 'visitors'.

I'm happy with what they're doing on the pitch, because right now that's beyond reproach.

However, Spalletti was content with what he had seen, with Inter right in the hunt for a top-four finish in Serie A which would secure Champions League football next season.

He told reporters: "I have often criticised the team, even when we were picking up plenty of points at the start of the season.

"I must now acknowledge that this is a solid Inter side. I am confident for the future and I am really pleased with how the team are playing.

"We still have some things to work on, but we are playing with character and we are well aware of what we need to do to reach our objective.

"I'm happy with what they're doing on the pitch, because right now that's beyond reproach."

Next up for Inter is a testing trip to Torino on Sunday, although the men from Milan will be boosted by the knowledge that they are unbeaten in their last 13 league games at the home of the Bulls.

A draw on Sunday is available at 13/5, with an Inter victory priced at 17/20 and a 1-0 win for the Nerazzurri 13/2.

Earlier this season the two sides shared the spoils from a 1-1 draw at the San Siro.
