Sports Ministry not in hurry to finalise CK Akonnor's contract - Kofi Asare Brako

Sports Minister aide Kofi Asare Brako says the government is not in a hurry to finalise Charles Kwabaln Akonnor's contract with the Black Stars.

The 46-year-old was appointed coach of the senior national team in early January replacing his former boss Kwesi Appiah and has been in charge for three months.

Despite the Football Association fulfilling their part of the contractual agreement, Kofi Asare Brako insists it will not be financially prudent to tie him down when he is not working due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

"We are not playing active football and we don’t know when COVID-19 will go so that’s the reason why we are holding on now," he told Starr FM Sports.

“The coach cannot even work here or travel to work all because of this Coronavirus pandemic so tie him and the government will go ahead to pay him 25,000 dollars every month when he is virtually doing nothing it does not make financial sense."

Coach CK Akonnor, who is deputized by David Duncan has been tasked to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

He made 41 appearances and scored 12 goals for Ghana before starting his coaching career at Sekondi Eleven Wise.

He has since managed Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashanti Gold SC, and Asante Kotoko.
