Spurs Defender Ben Davies Backs Teammate to Win Golden Boot for One Specific Reason

Published on: 04 March 2017

Tottenham defender Ben Davies believes Harry Kane will win the Premier League Golden Boot this season due to his selfishness in front of goal.

Kane is currently joint top if the goalscoring charts in the Premier League alongside Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez and Everton's Romelu Lukaku. The England international is set to comehead-to-head with the Belgian international when Spurs entertain Everton on Sunday afternoon.

His mindset is purely about scoring goals “ which you don't see too much of in the game now,"Davies told the Daily Star.

You have to be selfish to score goals and be a top striker. You have to want to score every time you are on the pitch.

With Harry, he wants to play in every minute of every game to give himself the chance to score the goals. For us as a team it is great to have someone like him “ he gives us a chance in every game.

He scores enough goals that he would have trouble celebrating them all. His motivation is to score goals.

That selfishness to score goals and help the team is invaluable. That desire to put the ball in the the net is great. I can seen him winning the Golden Boot “ he's got the determination.

He's got every opportunity and the games coming up are ones we have got to win so hopefully the goals will come.

Most fans are resigned to Chelsea being crowned Premier League champions, but Davies says his side will not give up in their chase of the Stamford Bridge club.

We are all aware of the gap but it is up to us to keep winning and hope that they slip up," Davies continued

It is going to be tough but, like I said, they might slip up and when they do we have to take advantage.

Other results are out of our hands and we can only do what we can. We have to keep believing. It would be silly not to in football as we saw last season, when we were going for second place we ended up not getting it.

Anything can change so we must keep believing and if we can narrow the gap maybe some pressure can build.

It is down to us to finish as high as we can and win every game from here.
