The manager for FC St. Pauli, Timo Schultz has explained that he resorted to benching Daniel-Kofi Kyereh for the game against Jahn Regensburg as a precautionary measure.

The Black Stars forward recently recovered from an injury he suffered while away with the national team at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Although he would have the chance to play in the game against Regensburg, it was only as a second-half substitute.

Speaking in a post-match interview, his coach Timo Schultz said the player is ready to play 90 minutes but he had to start from the bench on medical advice.

“He has now trained three times. If you ask Kofi he would say he can play 90 minutes. From the point of view of coaches and physicians, we have decided on a different path,” the FC St. Pauli manager shared.

After coming on against Regensburg, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh scored to seal a 3-2 win for FC St. Pauli.
