Stats Show West Ham's Dimitri Payet Is Leading the Premier League in Creativity This Season

Published on: 26 December 2016

West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet is currently the most creative player in the Premier League this season after crafting more chances for his team-mates than anyone else in the division - more than Mesut Ozil, more than Kevin De Bruyne, and more than Eden Hazard.

In 16 appearances,Payet has created 67 chances at an average of 4.19 per game.

Where the Frenchman, who trails De Bruyne in the assist rankings, falls down is the inability of his colleague to convert the opportunities he is presenting them with.

Payet only has six assists to his name despite his league-high levels of creativity. Where De Bruyne has had Sergio Aguero, Kelechi Iheanacho and Raheem Sterling to play with, Payet has seen injuries result in a revolving door situation when it comes to the strikers he's feeding.

The Hammers have overcome a difficult start to the season to win their last three games and ease any immediate fears of being sucked into a relegation battle. But whether Payet will get frustrated with his less talented team-mates is another question.

He has been linked with a move away all season and recently commented on how 'fun' it would be to play for Arsenal, as well as speaking fondly about a possible future with former club Marseille where there is a new 'project' under new ownership.
