Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah thinks he had his greatest season at Brescia, when he played with Pep Guardiola and Roberto Baggio.

In the 2002/03 season, a youthful Appiah joined Brescia on loan from Parma and quickly became a Serie A sensation.

In midfield, he got along well with Guardiola and previous Ballon d'Or winner Baggio, and Brescia ended in the top half of the league.

Appiah scored eight goals for the club, earning him a transfer to Juventus the following season.

When asked about his connection with Guardiola and Baggio, the 40-year-old stated he was at his best when he was on the field with them.

“I scored eight goals in the 2002-2003 season with Brescia because when you are playing with Guardiola and Baggio, they make things simple for you,” Appiah told Joy Sports.

“Brescia was the best season in my career because Brescia was a small team and when I joined them we placed sixth in the league. Nobody expected us to do so well. I had the chance to play with Guardiola and Baggio.”

When Ghana qualified for their first-ever FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006, Appiah was the captain.

He played 67 times for the Black Stars, scoring 14 goals, after rising through the levels from U-17 to U-20.

He also played club football for Udinese, Parma, Juventus, Fenerbahce, Bologna, and Cesena before retiring in 2015.
