Steven Gerrard Names the Player He Hopes Wins the Premier League Golden Boot

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard hopes Tottenham striker Harry Kane wins the Premier League Golden Boot this season.

Kane is among a host of top strikers battling it out for the prize, with Everton's Romelu Lukaku, Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez and Chelsea's Diego Costa also in the running.

Manchester United striker and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sunderland forward Jermain Defoe are currently four and five goals respectively behind Kane in goalscoring charts, but remain in the hunt.

Liverpool's top scorer is Sadio Mane, who has 12 league strikes, but Kane's recent form has seen him emerge as the favourite for the Golden Boot and Gerrard has revealed he hopes the Spurs forward, who has 19 goals in the competition, is the man to scoop the award.

"I hope it's Harry Kane," Gerrard said, as quoted byMetro.

"I just like him a lot, I'm a big fan of him, you see his finish last week, the first one, where he just rips the side-netting off.

"Reminds me of Robbie Fowler in his pomp, or Alan Shearer, where they just burst the side netting with their finishes.

"He's got a little bit of selfishness about him, which I like in a striker."

Kane and Lukaku had started the Premier League weekend level in the goalscoring stakes before Tottenham's 3-2 win over Everton, during which the Englishman outscored the Belgian by two goals to one.

Kane has won the award before after bagging 25 Premier League goals during the 2015-16 season and looks set to score more than 20 goals in a single campaign for the third year in a row.
