Following Sunderland's relegation into the Championship, David Moyes resigned from his post as manager of the club and the Black Cats' hierarchy are believed to have begun the search for the Scotsman's replacement.

The likes of Nigel Pearson, Aitor Karanka and Derek McInnes have been mentioned as potential candidates for the job and now even club legend Kevin Phillips has thrown his hat into the ring by expressing a desire to take over the vacant managerial position at the Stadium of Light.
