Surgery sidelines Real's Isco

Published on: 26 September 2018

Real Madrid midfielder Isco is facing around a month on the sidelines after undergoing an operation in the Spanish capital for acute appendicitis.

The 26-year-old Spain international playmaker had been complaining of stomach pains and was forced to go under the knife, meaning that he will miss several potentially crucial weeks of the campaign.

We have full faith in the players we have and hope our injured players return quickly.

Julen Lopetegui

He and Real will hope that he is fit and available in time for El Clasico against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, which is just over a month away, although Isco will definitely miss a clash with Atletico Madrid this weekend.

Los Merengues head coach Julen Lopetegui admitted that losing Isco was a blow, but preferred to focus on his task of finding a suitable replacement from within his squad.

He told reporters: "He had a pain in his stomach and it appeared to be appendicitis. Now he has undergone surgery and we wish him the very best for that and wish him a speedy recovery.

"Every injured player is bad news, but after wishing him a quick recovery we can only think about the solutions and the players we have available.

"We have full faith in the players we have and hope our injured players return quickly."

Isco moved to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013, having previously played for Valencia and Malaga, and has helped Real to one La Liga success and four Champions League triumphs during his time with the club.

Real can be backed at 15/8 to be crowned champions of Spain this season, with Barcelona priced at 4/7, while Atletico are available at 14/1.
