Taggart: Aloisi can improve me

Adam Taggart believes his move to Brisbane Roar can get him back into the Socceroos set-up.

The striker left home town club Perth Glory angry when he announced he was leaving at the end of his contract in May.

The Glory had hoped to keep hold of him, but the 25-year-old says he wanted to play under Roar coach John Aloisi and try to re-establish himself as an international player.

Taggart has scored three goals in seven appearances for the Socceroos, and played for them at the 2014 World Cup.

He's been overlooked since then, though, leaving him hungry to reclaim his spot in time for next year's Asian Cup when Australia will defend their trophy.

John's been a top striker in all of the big leagues in the world.

Taggart says former Socceroo centre forward Aloisi can take his game to the next level, much as he's already done with Jamie Maclaren and Brandon Borrello.

"I wanted to work under John Aloisi," said the striker. "He has a great record of developing young players.

"John's been a top striker in all of the big leagues in the world. For someone to have great understanding of all those leagues is only going to be good for any young striker."

Taggart, who had a two-year spell with Fulham without making a first-team appearance, returned to Australia in 2016 to sign a two-year contract with the Glory.

He netted 20 goals in his 38 appearances for the club, taking his overall A-League tally to 39 goals in 92 games.

"I want to do the best I can to do get back to the national side," he said. "I'm going to make the most of what I can here."

Brisbane are 10/1 to win the 2019 Grand Final.

The Roar are 1/1 to win their opening game of the season against Central Coast, who are 23/10 with the draw 14/5.
