Tamale City, Ebusua Dwarfs and Liberty to battle it out for GPL slot after Ashantigold demotion

Tamale City FC, Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs FC, and Liberty Professionals will battle it out for a spot in the Ghana Premier League following Ashantigold’s demotion.

The miners lost their match-fixing appeal and will play in the Division Two League next season.

The former Ghana Premier League champions were found guilty of match-fixing and were relegated to the third-tier league.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee announced in May that Ashgold played a pre-arranged match against Inter Allies on the final matchday of the 2020/21 season.

The game ended 7-0, with Inter Allies defender Hashmin Musah admitting to scoring two own goals to foil a match-fixing plot.

The verdict was announced after months of thorough investigation, but the Miners insisted they had done nothing wrong and filed an appeal to overturn the verdict.

The Appeals Committee has dismissed Ashgold's appeal and upheld the Disciplinary Committee's decision.

As a result, the Ghana FA has decided to hold a play-off between the three second-placed clubs in the Division One Leagues, with the ultimate winner replacing the demoted Ashantigold SC in next season's Ghana Premier League.

Tamale City FC, Ebusua Dwarfs FC, and Liberty Professionals FC finished second in their Division One League Zones, respectively.

The three teams will compete in an all-play-all league format, with the winner advancing to the Premier League.

The fixtures will be as follows:

Team A vrs Team B Team B vrs Team C Team C vrs Team A

A draw will be held for the teams to pick A, B or C to ensure fair parings.
