Targett ready for six-pointer

Published on: 20 December 2018

Matt Targett has identified Southampton's match at Huddersfield Town on Saturday as a massive game.

Saints are hoping to build on their first victory at St Mary's this season - 3-2 against Arsenal on Sunday - when they take on the Terriers in a crunch six-pointer at the John Smith's Stadium.

Southampton, who are 17th in the table after beating the Gunners, are available at 9/2 to be relegated this season while 19th-placed Huddersfield are 4/11 to go down.

Danny Ings netted twice against Unai Emery's side and is 11/2 to score the first goal at Huddersfield, while Charlie Austin headed home the late winner for Ralph Hasenhuttl's team in Sunday's clash.

Targett said of the Huddersfield match: "It really is a massive game. It is our six-pointer. We need to continue working hard and take on the new challenges.

"If you look at the fixtures, we are targeting the next two games. We have to take maximum points, so we have to go to Huddersfield and work as hard as we did against Arsenal.

"I enjoy playing as a wing-back, it's a role I enjoy doing and he [Ralph Hasenhuttl] has been very intense but it's been good.

"He has made it clear about what he wants everyone to do in their roles, which is nice because we are all buying into it."

Saints are 8/5 to beat Huddersfield this weekend.
