Tassotti: AC Milan are back to being a normal club again

AC Milan have been heralded as having returned to normality after some dark days by former player and assistant coach Mauro Tassotti.

The 58-year-old has been synonymous with the Diavolo throughout his playing and coaching careers, representing them as a defender for 17 years before hanging up his boots.

After retirement, he held roles as youth coach, interim first team coach, assistant and even a scouting role before departing in the summer of 2016, ending a 36-year association with Milan, although he is now pleased to see the club turning over a new leaf.

“Milan are now back to being a normal club. They are back to having recognisable faces, being a club with important economic capacities, who rely on important figures and that’s why I like this kind of Rossoneri repatriation,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I’ll be honest. Now, I follow Milan with a lot more affection than I did before. It is good to have men like Leonardo, Paolo Maldini and Gennaro Gattuso back at the club.

“Leo and Paolo have the intelligence to be a successful pairing and they have the aura of champions so I’m happy for them. We are talking about people who are respected throughout football, not just within the world of Milan.

“As for Gattuso, we can’t forget what he did last season. It was the right decision to give him the opportunity to start from the beginning of this season.

“Under him, the team have a specific identity now. Even on difficult days, Milan have always looked like a team.”

Tassotti currently holds a position as assistant coach of the Ukrainian national team.
