Schalke head coach Domenico Tedesco expects new signing Sebastian Rudy to be a big success, the midfielder having joined on a four-year contract from Bayern Munich.

Rudy only moved to the Allianz Arena a year ago and made 35 appearances in all competitions for Bayern last season, but was told by new head coach Niko Kovac ahead of the new season that he could leave the club.

We are certain that a player of his quality and experience will greatly benefit our youthful squad.

The 28-year-old, who was a member of the national team squad at World Cup 2018, joined Bayern from Hoffenheim, having started his career with VfB Stuttgart.

And Tedesco is expecting good things from Rudy, as he told his club's official website: "We are delighted to have brought Sebastian to Schalke.

"He is a very intelligent and technically strong addition to the squad with his domestic and international experience.

"We are certain that a player of his quality and experience will greatly benefit our youthful squad."

Tedesco will be hoping that Rudy can make his mark straightaway, with Schalke having begun the new Bundesliga season with a 2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg on Saturday.

They are back in action next Sunday, when they play host to Hertha Berlin, who started their league campaign with a 1-0 home win over Nuremberg.

Schalke are priced at 4/5 to defeat Hertha and are 13/2 to do so by a 2-0 scoreline, with the hosts 4/1 to win by a two-goal margin.
