Ghana isn’t necessarily a country with a reputation for having one of the best football teams in the world, but they have made a name for themselves after going on some incredible cup runs. The most notable being reaching the semi-finals in the 2010 World Cup Nations. The country has produced some of the best players to touch a ball. Some of them have gone on to play for the biggest clubs in the world, such as Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Back when Michael Essien played for Chelsea, you would get good EPL odds on him winning man of the match.

Stephen Appiah

At the number 10 spot is Stephen Appiah, who played a crucial role in Ghana’s national football team at the world cup in 2010. He has had a successful career with 67 caps and 14 goals for his country and played at a high club level for the likes of Bologna and Parma as well as some time with Fenerbahce. It could be argued that his biggest achievement was winning the Turkish Super League during his 3 years at the club.

Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan is considered one of the more recent stars to come out of Ghana and put them on the map as a country producing some real talent. He played in the premier league for Sunderland before going on to play for Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. He has won the Ghanaian player of the year award twice and has even had a nomination for the Ballon d’Or.

Sulley Muntari

Sulley Muntari is another highly decorated player to come out of Ghana’s national team. He has had some memorable highlights in his career, including scoring a goal vs Uruguay in the quarter-final of the 2010 World Cup. Unfortunately, Ghana went on to be put out in penalties, but his goal will not be forgotten. Muntari has played for a number of popular football teams such as Sunderland, Portsmouth, and AC Milan.

Ibrahim Sunday

Ibrahim Sunday is a player who almost reached their greatest but didn’t quite get over the finish line. He was undoubtedly an extremely talented player who played an important role in getting Ghana to the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations twice. Unfortunately, his team was knocked out both times. He also played for the German team Weder Bremen but spent a lot of his time there on the bench.

Mohammed Ahmed Polo

Mohammed Ahmed Polo is considered one of the most technically gifted football players to come out of Ghana. Early on in his career, he moved to Dubai and became a household name for fans of the team Al Wasl. In 1978, he contributed to helping Ghana lift the trophy in the African Cup of Nations and also won the Ghanaian player of the year award.

Karim Abdul Razak

In 70 games for his country, Karim Abdul Razak scored 25 goals and was also part of the squad that lifted the African Cup of Nations trophy in 1978 alongside Mohammed Ahmed Polo. It could be argued that Razak played an even bigger role in helping his side to victory by scoring twice in the tournament.

Tony Yeboah is most well known for his time in the English Premier League, where he played for Leeds United for two years. Some of the stunning goals that he scored made him a memorable name for many fans and for years to come long after his departure. Other clubs he played for include Hamburger SV and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Samuel Kuffour

Samuel Kuffour started his professional football career at the tender age of just 15 back in 1992. This made him the youngest footballer to ever play in the Olympic games at the time. He played for the dominant German side, Bayern Munich, where he won numerous trophies with the side as well as several league titles.

Michael Essien

Forget top Ghanaian players; Michael Essien is considered one of the best midfielders to ever touch the game. He really made a name for himself during his time at Chelsea, where he won multiple league titles as well as a total of seven cups. Most notably, he was part of the Chelsea squad that won the Champions League back in 2012. In 2008, he won the Ghanaian player of the year award.

He won the award for the African footballer of the year a staggering 3 times throughout his career and also had two separate nominations for the FIFA World Player of the Year title.
