The problem is with the entire Black Stars technical team; not just CK Akonnor - Nii Lantey Vanderpuye

A former Sports Minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has called for the dissolution of the entire Black Stars technical team after insisting that the problem is not with CK Akonnor alone.

Coach CK Akonnor has come under fire since Monday after Ghana lost 1-0 to South Africa in the qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking on the mounting pressure to have the coach fired, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye says this will not be the right time to show the gaffer the exit door.

According to him, the Black Stars problem is not with the head coach alone but the entire technical team.

“We saw the team play against Ethiopia and after the match, we were afraid of what was going to happen in South Africa.

“We were lucky we lost by one goal. Judging by their performance, the South Africans were not good, else they would have embarrassed us,” the former Sports Minister said in an interview with Starr FM.

He continued, “From what I hear, the coach is not the only problem. You have a system where people are pushing for their players to be in the team.

“What will be the reason to change CK? I believe it's the whole technical bench, not CK alone. In the middle of world cup qualifiers, I don't think it's the time to change the coach."

Meanwhile, the GFA is set to hold an emergency meeting on Friday to elaborate on issues bothering on the Black Stars.
