There is real need for players to succeed in Ghana because of limited options – Coach Cameron Campbell

A former coach at Right to Dream Academy, Cameron Campbell has opened up on the difference between trying to make it as a footballer in Ghana and abroad.

According to him, players in the West African country have to go the length to make it as footballers because there are limited options available unlike in Europe.

He is of the view that the poverty in Ghana and other similar countries means players need football more to make it in life.

"The natural one people speak about was Ghana, where there was a lot more poverty and it was very different…We say that players in those kinds of countries need to become football players, whereas players in Scotland, if it doesn’t work out they can go to university or get a job,” Coach Cameron Campbell who is now coach of the Rangers youth team said as quoted by heraldscotland.

The coach continued, "They can still have a good life and make a career for themselves in different avenues, which is brilliant. That is something we promote at Rangers and we make sure the players have got options for their careers.

"In Ghana, due to the limited options, there is a real need and desire from a young age that they will do anything they possibly can to make it as a professional football player. You then combine that with how they grow up, their environment."

During his time at Right to Dream, Coach Cameron Campbell did some good work. The renowned academy owned by Tom Vernon has become home to many Ghanaian players.

It has produced the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Ernest Nuamah who are world-recognised football stars.
