They just gave monies to cronies to go and do things anyway – Kobena Woyome speaks on past Baba Yara Stadium renovations

Chairman of Ghana’s Parliamentary Select Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism, Wisdom Kobena Woyome has lamented the state of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Stadium has lost its approval from CAF to host international matches due to various issues including the poor nature of the pitch.

The Stadium has now been closed for renovation works.

The renovations works this year means the Baba Yara Sports Stadium has undergone five renovations in the last five years.

Speaking to ChannelOne Sports, Wisdom Kobena Woyome said it appears the government only gave monies to cronies to just go and do things anyway during the past renovations.

He said this is why the Stadium is still not up to standards.

“There’ve been efforts in the past by the government releasing money for renovations in both Baba Yara and Ohene Djan (Accra) Sports Stadium; what has happened? I’m sure they just gave monies to cronies to just go and do things anyway, anyhow and the situation still persists,” the Chairman of Ghana’s Parliamentary Select Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism said.

Wisdom Kobena Woyome continued, “There ought to be a serious paradigm shift my dear brothers and sisters. In fact there is the need for all of us to look at it and see how this ought to be avoided.”
