Thibaut Courtois has dropped a major hint that a return to Spain could be on the cards when his current contract expires at Chelsea.

The goalkeeper gave an exclusive interview to Spanish newspaper Marca, and revealed that he misses certain aspects of the culture in Spain.

Courtois plied his trade at Atletico Madrid on loan from Chelsea for three seasons between July 2011 and July 2014.

And the Belgium international stated that he would give serious consideration to returning to the Iberian outfit when his deal at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2018.

He said: "When I left Spain it was clear that one day I would return there.

"I have a contract at Chelsea three seasons.

"In 2018, when I enter the final year of the contract, we will assess whether to renew or leave."

Courtois also revealed that he still partakes in parts of Spanish culture despite living in London, including having siestas in the afternoon.

When asked he missed Spain, he continued: "Yes, but not only for the club (Atletico), but how is Madrid and the whole country .

"From the first minute I fell in love with Spain for its people, lifestyle, food... I still maintain eating dinner and having an afternoon nap, most of the television I see is Spanish... I am half Spanish."

The 24-year-old shot stopper added that he implored then-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to allow him to stay at Atletico for one more season, despite the Portuguese wanting him to return to Chelsea - and that he cried when his three-year long loan spell eventually came to an end.

He added: "I knew that after the second season at Atletico hewanted me back.

"Mourinho called me, but I needed to play more, so I pushed to stay another campaign.

"When I said goodbye I had a bad time. I had cold blood, it was not easy. I cried.

"Atletico is a family club. I still feel their love."
